CUB was contracted to design, fabricate and install the façade retention, remove any asbestos, demolition of the rest of the building then excavation for drainage, sewerage, power and foundation installation.
The façade protection installation required CUB engineering to work with the current services in the area to ensure the old building’s facade was protected.
Once the facade retention support structure design was accepted and signed off by the client’s engineer, the structural components were fabricated and installed.
A small amount of friable asbestos was encapsulated and removed. Once a clearance certificate was issued by an independent licenced asbestos assessor demolition commenced.
Demolition involved some delicate removal techniques to ensure retention and protection of the heritage facade. Motion sensors were installed on the facade and monitored to make sure there was no movement of the façade during demolition of the rest of the building.
Equipment used for this project included a 40 Franna, 60 tonne slewing crane, 16 tonne forklift and 20 tonne excavators.
The project took around 8 weeks to complete, and the client was very impressed with the end result.
